Our lovely open day – plus Induction session times

We had a wonderful open day on Sunday April 19. Planting, bushcare, bed building, leaf bingo, flax weaving, mud-bricks – so much fun!

First we’d like to extend a big WELCOME to all those people who decided that day that you’d like to join us!

Here are the next planned induction times. Please email us here to let us know which time works best for you – OR if none of these work, we’re happy to arrange an alternative time to take you through how we work at the garden.

  • Sunday April 26 9 am – 10 am with Kazie and Vicki
  • Tuesday April 28 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm with Julie
  • Saturday May 2 9:00 am – 10 am with Vicki
  • Monday May 4 9:00 am – 10 am with Paul
  • Tuesday May 5 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm with Julie

Looking forward to hearing from you! If you’ve not yet signed up, you can do so at the Thirroul Neighborhood Centre (open on Wednesdays and Fridays) – in the Thirroul Community Centre and Library building. OR – bring your forms and correct change to your induction session and we’ll sign you up there.

Next – we’d like to extend HUGE THANKS to all who helped make Sunday such a great day:

Cath Blakey from Wollongong Council’s Green team for loaning (and delivering!) equipment, providing some great gardening and chook information sheets and booklets to give out, and of course the great prizes for kids. (And speaking of the green team, they are busy planning activities for the upcoming Celebrate Compost week – see here for more information. And in our neighborhood, there’ll be a screening of Dirt! the Movie on Wednesday May 6.  See here for bookings and information.)

Paul Hellier from Council’s bushcare team for sending along Bernadette Hodgkins to work alongside our Bushcare co-ordinator David. And also, for bringing us plants to regenerate the latest successful clearing in the “great wall of privet”.

Russell Dixon from the Niche nursery for donating (and delivering!) the fantastic flag poles (which were pressed into service to hold the tarpaulin roof on the day, but will be great flagpoles at the entrance from now on).

Emily Messieh and her wonderful team of volunteers at the Thirroul Neighborhood Centre who arranged the bake stall.

John Jones and the guys from the Bulli Men’s Shed for arranging the sausage sizzle and the coffee cart.

Lizzie Rose and Caitlin Marshall from Wild Rumpus for arranging the fantastic mudbrick workshop, run by David from Mud Fun.

And – of course, each and every one of our marvelous gardeners who worked so hard to make the day a great success. You know who you are! You’re all FABULOUS!

If anyone has photos of the day to share, we’d love to have them! Email us!

20150419_142554Meantime, here’s my favorite from the day – a young participant of the mudbrick workshop, who really immersed himself in the material – so much so, he needed some help to eat his cake from the bake stall.

Cheers! See you down at the garden soon! Julie
